I am not much of a morning person by my nature. My body left to its own devices would wake up around 8 am. When I wasn't working, I woke up between 7:50 and 8:15 every day. Early morning just isn't my cup of tea. Which is ironic because I really love early morning. I like getting up early and getting my day going. I like hitting 10 am knowing that all that *has* to be done in a day is done. I just don't like to get myself out of bed to do it!
Last year as I was training for the Half Marathon From Hell, I turned in a lot of early mornings in the summer - when you know you have 3 hours of walking ahead of you and you know the high for the day is set to be 95 - well, you want to get as much of that walk in before the heat hits hard. This summer I haven't had to worry about that - no half marathons for me (which is a topic for another day), no early morning training. I'll be honest, it's been really nice!
However, this morning I set my alarm for 6 am. We are visiting my husband's family at the New Jersey shore and I thought that it would be nice to hit the beach at the literal crack of dawn to watch the sun come up over the water and try to capture some pictures and practice some photography. The alarm went off and my body cried out "are you kidding me, lady??" but after 1 round of snoozing, I got myself up and made my way to the beach and let me tell you -- it was worth it! Watching the sky become more and more pink, watching the waves break in the glare of the sun - it was truly magnificent. It is so easy to take for granted the true miracle that every day is until you watch it begin.
Much like January is the arbitrary turning of the odometer of a new year, so is midnight. The true day begins with the rising of the sun and the light it shines upon us. I can't promise that I'll get up every morning to watch the sun come up but I can promise that I'll do it a lot more often from now on!

What a great idea. Glad you did it and shared. Now i want to see more pix!
