I have been following Gwen Bell since my friend Jen pointed her out to me this summer and for the month of December, Gwen is posing a bunch of questions to her readers. So I'm going to take the time and answer them - probably not all of them because not all resonate for me but I thought this would be an interesting activity as the year winds down.
December 1 Trip. What was your best trip in 2009?
That's an interesting question because I went on a few trips this year and while my fiance (that's fun to be saying!) and I went to Vegas and had a great time and we went to Western PA to visit Fallingwater (which had been a life long dream of mine) and of course an annual pilgrimage to Seattle but I would say the best trip of the year was the trip I took with 3 of my best girlfriends to visit another friend in Tallahassee, Florida. We went in May - Mother's Day weekend to be precise - and it was an incredibly well timed trip. I had just had a falling out with a friend and I was still pretty raw from it (actually, I still am but that's a conversation for another day) and what my soul needed more than anything was to immerse myself in the love and the understanding of 4 women who had been my friends for over 20 years. To just be with them - to just have the chance to soak in their love and to share laughs over stories that happened 15 years ago was the medicine that cured all that ailed me at that time. And to get a chance to know our friend's husband better was an added treat. It was a reminder that I am truly loved and that there are people to whom I don't have to explain any history, any story -- they just know -- they know my stories and they know me. It was a perfect weekend trip!
